Spinning Mondays

Ok with my new regime I've decided it might be best to include other workouts, thus Spinning Mondays.

I go to 24 hour fitness and go to the best Spin class ever. My instructor turned great friend Alex teaches too many times a week, but I go for the most part on Monday and Thursday nights (contrary to popular belief - I will redeem myself MaryKay, Alex, and Jourdan). Background/Side note: Jourdan and I joined this gym together, said ooh spin class lets try - Alex was the 1st class we ever went to. Upon going and going and going to her classes we eventually became friends - somewhere along the way MaryKay showed up and sat in the front row with us and she became a friend too. So now there's the 4 of us and we call ourselves "Team Alex". Its quite funny too - all the instructors at the gym know our little group.

So Mondays are going to be Spin/Stretch Mondays - no Running - just the 1 hour spin class, some good stretching before class and some weight lifting.

We'll see how this plays out :)

Goal Update

So after my last few runs - I kinda feel that the December 5th 1/2 marathon race is untouchable.

I need more time - I'd LOVE to do this race and I'm going to keep running, I just dont think its possible. If a miracle happens though in the meantime I'd definately sign up around Thanksgiving.

With all this being said - I searched the internet for races and there's not a lot but one caught my eye. The Disney Princess 1/2 marathon on March 7, 2010. 137 days from now. Its kinda fitting too - I keep my training going (and I do mean MY training) for the next 137 days. I unfortunatly dont have a "coach" January - March because of his busy season but I have a feeling my other "coach" Alex would step in. But I really feel I could do this one and after it was all over with, I'd definately deserve to be treated like a Princess.

So there it is - March 2010 my 1st Half Marathon Race.. 137 days from now.

Run #7

"Running is real and relatively simple…but it ain't easy".--Mark Will-Weber

Run#7
Date: 10-16-09

Running is anything but easy. Running is probably one of the hardest things I've ever done. I think its the reason why I havent quit....yet. I know I can do this - I just have to keep getting out of the front door and go do it even when I dont want to. I just need to tell my butterflies go away and dont come back but they wont listen.

This week was a very long week in terms of work, so I took off friday to sleep in and recover. Friday afternoon Brett said lets go run - though the initial though was oh lets just stay on the couch catching up on TV, the little voice said no you should really go run. I was all set until Brett said ok we are going to do 3 miles. *GULP* ::stomach twists into knot:: why did he have to say that - now I'm freaking out.

We get outside and I come up with a new path - Brett decides I run too slow for him so hes going to give me a 5 min head start. Ok that works for me so I start running down Robinson to Fern Creek and turn around - thats when I lose it - mentally im done. I can see my condo bldg and visually its so far but not really i'm only a mile from it but the mean person in my head is like quit, stop, stomach cramps up, my calves (which I think Ive injured) really start to hurt but I keep going and eventually have to walk beacuse the pain is just too much. So I walk for a min, start running again saying to myself you can do this and finish out the run for a total of 2 miles.

Run #6

"To get to the finish line, you'll have to try lots of different paths." - Amby Burfoot

Run#6
Date: 10-11-09

I love finding quotes which pertain to my 'tales'. In order to get to my goal of a half marathon, I know I need to run a lot of different paths. Like tonights run - we went to my inlaws house and I brought my running shoes and went for a nice run by myself.

Well before hand I went with my Mother in law and the dog for a walk (1.65 mile walk), then grabbed my iPod and went running. It was nice, no coach to kill me, just me, the road, and my thoughts. These types of runs are great for me as I dont really know a set path to run or the distance I'm running. So its great because I can tell myself oh run this way then that way and eventually we'll end up back home and mentally it all works out because I dont know how far I'm running. Though...the Garmin vibrates at every mile it gives away how far I've been so I need to look into turning that function off.

Now if only I could push myself past this 2 mile 'road block' I have in my head....
While on this run I was thinking about the race in December and how I've been running - I am not sure if a 1/2 marathon will work in December, in 2010 maybe so a Goal Change might come sometime soon. What that is, I'm not sure so stay tuned.

Run #5

"Coaches are ok, I guess, but I prefer to do things my own way" - Jack Foster

Run# 5
Date: 10-8-09

This quote takes the cake. Now my coach is more than 'ok', hes awesome (partly because he is my husband) but if he wasnt my husband he'd still be awesome and I'd probably ramble on and on about my hot running coach.

But....I think I might like running/doing things my own way. Especially last night. Got down to the lake and Brett forgets his iPod so he goes back inside leaving me outside for 10 mins to wait for him - aka dread what I was about to go do. He gets back and I say lets run something totally different (because of my mental problem I dont like doing the same path). So we come up with Brett runs and I follow behind him. Well this works out but at 1.1 miles I HAVE to start walking and you know who isnt happy. SO start walking home and through the midst of our arguing, I turn the corner and start running on my own. I thought I'd just go do my own thing but Brett ends up behind me and complains that I run to slow and that he can walk the pace I run (I say its because I have a short stride compared to his but he doesnt buy it).

So the usual square we do around the lake I run the entire thing (With the "coach" behind me) and once I get to the starting point of my square I run the entire length of the road again back home to add too my mileage. Though not a continuous run it was a run and I did it sore legs and all. This second part of my run was 1.55 miles.

Now we just have to see what happens this next run - I really cant get past the mental block of running 3 without walking - I'll get there - one day - hopefully in the next week. I told brett I need to take baby steps running 2miles, then 2.5, then 3 etc. He doesnt agree and is taking my Garmin from me next time I run because he says thats part of the problem...he could be right- we'll see.

Run #4

"Learn to run when feeling the pain: then push harder." - William Sigei

Run #4
Date: 10-6-09

I was pushed tonight. I went into tonights run with th coach and I was dying. Mentally I screwed up and had to start walking - Coach was not happy. So I finished 2 miles and was going to throw in the towel when Brett said ok 1 more, were doing it I dont care.

Ok so there's the Push I needed - I did 2 - I'm tired, I want to quit and we go for 1 more mile but oh geeze I SUCKED tonight. Got 1/2 around the lake and started walking again, got the pain away and started running, had to start walking again but then I pickd up and started running.

Coach was not pleased BUT I finished the last mile feeling like I was going to die but now as I sit here my calves are so sore but I'm glad I was pushed into doing the last mile. Now I just have to learn to run with the pain and keep pushing through it!

Cross-Train Day

Cross Train #1
Date: 10-3-09

According to my running schedule I need to include some things other than running. So this afternoon I decided to go swim. I <3 swimming! <3 <3!

I put on my Garmin 310XT to try it out in the pool, and I learned tonight it doesnt track your distance well in the pool. Its great for time but not distance.

So tonight was a consecutive 20 min swim. The garmin said it was a 2 mile distance - though I'd LOVE for that to be right, I know its not, but it felt great to swim 20 mins. <3

Run #3

Running is a big question mark that's there each and every day. It asks you, 'Are you going to be a wimp or are you going to be strong today?'" - Peter Maher, Canadian marathon runner

Run #3
Date: 10-1-09

Running today ? I definately ran this afternoon in the Gym on the treadmill. I was both a wimp and strong if thats possible. I learned today I'm not a huge fan of running on the treadmill. I do love my iPod though while running, though I need to set up another play list.

While running I realized my legs were sore from yesterday's run. So tonights run I had to walk some. I'm not disappointed in having to walk - but I know the Coach wouldnt be thrilled.

Today's required run was 3 miles according to my running schedule. Fear set in at the beginning and I was so wimpy at the end of the run it wasnt even funny. But again another run down - I really really hope it gets easier. I'm SO glad tomorrow is a rest day.
