Run # 2

"Each time we face our fear, we gain strength, courage, and confidence in the doing"

Run #2
Date: 9-30-09

Again another great quote today. I fear running. Which might be why I havent ran in a week.
Running is very mental - looking at my running chart and seeing 3, 4, 5, 6, 7+ miles on it in the future freaks me out. Just thinking about this week's run schedule puts butterflies in my stomach.

I know how to run, I'm just not good at long distance running. I want to get better, I know this road to get to 4 + miles is not going to be fun so by facing this fear I know I'll gain more strength and confidence that I can do this!

Tonight was more difficult than normal - I've been lazy for a week and my "Coach" had a prior obligation so I actually got off the couch and said ok I am going running all by my self. So I started charging the iPod while I found an outfit and made sure my Garmin was charged and off I went.

Once outside and found by the satellite, I told myself you can do the same loop as last time (The 2.15 mile loop). Started up the iPod with some Brittney - Break the Ice and off I was. Legs tight, decent pace but not as good bymyself. Got to the point where I complete the Square and start the round loop around the lake and I'm maybe 1/4 away around the lake when Taylor Swift's - Should have said No song came on. Its like seriously, I was fighting hard not to quit and my iPod starts to mock me with the "You should have Said No song" I quickly changed that song to whatever came up next and it was Beyonce "Diva". Much better because I thought to myself - I am a Diva right now - Diva's finish this run! haha

Results of Run #2
Distance: 2.15 miles (but the garmin says 2.06 this time for the same path - dont get it)
Time: 20:33
Pace: 9:33 / mile

Run # 1

"The Hardest Part about running is going out your front door"

Run # 1
Date: 9-23-09

Today's quote couldnt be more true. I get home from work and "Coach" is like ok we are going running how far are we going? I say 2 miles. He says ok you need to run a 9 mile pace. I freak out.

I'm not a fan of distances or pacing - I mentally freak out. I think I cant do it. I tell myself I cant do it. So "Coach" agrees to me doing a 10 min / mile pace.

We live downtown and by a Lake which has a nice path around it which is almost a mile - we decide to follow the road and do the square around the lake which is over a mile, then do the loop around the lake. I just got the Garmin 310XT for my birthday from my Awesome! Husband so using it was awesome (Still trying to figure out how to upload though). We are running, doing great - "coach" is in front of me and I'm watching the pace on the watch every so often and Holy Geeze - we are under the 10min/mile pace.

Near the end I started cramping and slowing down but I finished.

Results of Run # 1
Distance: 2.15 miles
Time: 20:31
Pace: 9:32 / mile

The Race

The 1/2 Marathon Race I'm interested in takes place on December 5, 2009. About 10 weeks away. Now I"ve done quite a feww 5K races and the most I've done with a Triathlon is 4 miles so there's a HUGE mental block on how I can go from 4 to 13. Eeek !

Now I have this great friend who is an Elite Triathlete ( She wont say she's elite - but she is). She is also an awesome runner and she said a week ago "Hey 11 weeks - do this race" - so with Triathlon season slowing down I figured ok I'll give it a shot, I'll try hard and now my husband (aka "Coach") is pushing me to go run.

:)

Hello There

Hello to those who decided to start reading this running journey of mine. AKA Tales from the Sole (Shoe Sole that is). I'm hoping to have lots of Tales to tell about this little thing called running.

Lets give some background out so we area all on the same page.

I'm Hollie. I live in Florida. I have completed 4 triathlons over the past year. I have a love/hate relationship with running. I have a goal of completing a 1/2 Marathon this December.

I'm going to write my "tales" after each run to not only document my progress but to hopefully better motivate myself and get past my mental block that I can do this !

:)
